ESCAPE
Piece by: Jan-Hendrik Lourens (NIP)
Acrylic paint on canvas
As you interpret this odd combination of colours, shapes, random strokes, and some “self-proclaimed” graffiti styles, you enter the experience of being trapped and not being able to escape. From my eye, I see a character in the middle who carries a deep sorrow in their eyes and a body position that is trying to jump out of the purple surrounding it. As the creator of this piece, it represents how I was feeling during the time of this painting. I felt emotionally trapped by own thoughts. I am aware that my thoughts influence the way I feel, so why then do I have negative thoughts? Why think about feeling trapped when I know my thoughts manifest? I believe an important part of our lives is to constantly try to deepen our understanding of our subconsciousness, and getting a sense of how the events in our life shaped the way we think and the thoughts that we have.
